Chinese painters: Li Keran 李可染

 According to the Art Market Monitor of Artron, the average price per square feet of his work reached US$364,200, a 77.29 percent rise compared with 2011. 

 

 

Li Keran (1907-1989), born Li Yongshun in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, was a renowned contemporary Chinese artist and calligrapher. Li excelled at depicting landscapes, human figures and cattle.

He was a shining star on the 2012 auction market. His work “Landscape in Red” gave him a new record at US$43.99 million during Poly Auction’s 2012 spring sale, which was also the highest selling price on the Chinese arts market in 2012.
