Does the Shennongjia Savage really exist? Paleoanthropologist Zhou Guoxing pointed out during the Science and Technology Journalist Salon hosted by the Beijing Municipal Association of Science and Technology and other organizations that the Shennongjia Savage does not exist based on his long-term fieldwork experience in the Shennongjia region and other regions.
Zhou said that instead of spending large sums of money and time to track a creature that does not exist, people should pay more attention to the study of unique animal species in Shennongjia.
Zhou has been studying the Savage for 50 years. He began his research on the Himalayan Abominable Snowman as early as the 1950s. The legend has appeared in many regions around China over the decades such as in Yunnan, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Tibetan Autonomous Region. Zhou has launched many investigations regarding those legends but never found a real Savage.
There is a legend of a red-hair Bigfoot in Shennongjia and Zhou indeed found lots of red hair during that particular investigation. However, he also found traces of dye in the hair.
He sent the samples to foreign research institutions several times for identification and finally found that the hair belongs to human beings.
The other black and brown hairs he discovered during the investigation were also finally identified as hairs of various animals such as bears and monkeys and even human beings.
Therefore, Zhou believes the mysterious animal hair that was recently discovered in Shennongjia is human hair.
